April 30, 2024 - Blog - Choosing Life

I heard a speaker recently that said (I am paraphrasing) that be it illness or be it time, one of them will take us and, regardless which one, we all go eventually.

I guess that begs the question, what are we doing in the meantime?

Life can be cruel and unfair at times and, I understand that as much as anyone, however, through all that, we still have have a choice. What is good is always available and so is what is bad, so essentially it all comes down to what we choose. I know this is not always easy, but it is still true.

In our darkest of days, if you allow it, that darkness can and will invade every aspect of your life but there is a second option. You can choose to let some light in. How? Find your moments of joy, yes, I know they often seem elusive, but they are there. You may have to focus more on it or make an extra effort toward finding it, but I can promise you it is there and, the only way I know how to out some darkness, is to let some light in. So no matter how grim the situation may feel, there is happiness that can be found too. Even a glimmer is enough to start with.

Wherever you find yourself, I am here to tell you you can learn to live a happy productive life with or without your circumstances being ideal or if tragedy and loss are something you have been forced to live with. I can say this for sure because I did it. Not perfectly, and not without my many shortcomings, pitfalls, struggles and still some setbacks from time to time, but it can be done.

Never stop hoping, learning or praying. Answers will come at an appointed time and, eventually, even if those answers are not what you thought they would or should be, you will learn to make sense of them if you choose life.

And that is worth living for.
