You Don’t Have to Be Strong All the Time - Loosen the expectations a little.
Share
If you are supporting someone you love through addiction, you have probably heard things like, “You’re so strong,” or “I don’t know how you do it.”
What they don’t always see is that strength sometimes looks like simply holding yourself together. It looks like tears in the car, quiet breakdowns in the kitchen, and going to bed early because everything feels too heavy.
You are not strong because you’re unaffected — you’re strong because you care deeply.
Some days that simply means getting dressed.
Some days it means reaching out.
Some days it means doing nothing at all — because that’s all you have in you...
...and that's completely okay.
Be kind with yourself today.
Loosen the expectations a little.
Let yourself be human.

If you’d like more support on this journey, I’ve written several books for parents and loved ones loving someone through addictive addiction. If it feels helpful, you can explore them here.
